After Ann got a work placement for the summer in Malta, I decided to spend my holidays there to shorten the period of two months I'd have to be without my twin ;) So in July our friend Claudia and I stepped onto the plane towards Malta as well...
The beginning of our trip wasn't that fun. Claudi and I didn't take any warming clothes with us after Ann had promised there was absolutely no need for it in Malta. But Hamburg was quite cold that morning... Anyways, we had to leave the car at a parking lot seemingly in the middle of nowhere, as you can see on the first picture. But we arrived safely in Malta and we thrown into the maltese way of life without the slightest warning (like, is there any need of clamping baggage securely??)
At the next morning we took a walk to discover the area around our hotel (which was located in the city of St. Julian's) and had to learn that there was also no necessity of screwing a safe...
The next day we took the bus to Bugibba, the city where Ann is working as a so-called "social leader" in a language school. It was very quiet here compared to the busy St. Julian's which was overcrowded with screaming students. The photo showing the view into a Mall was taken from our balcony, so you can guess it was never quiet there ;)
After having gotten used to the way of traveling somewhere by bus we dared visiting the capital of Malta, Valletta. Valletta is a beautiful place, lots of old houses and amazing pieces of architecture. We were surprised to find many narrow and sometimes precipitous streets there. But the large steps made it quite comfortable walking those parts of town.
And here are finally some pics that also show Ann sporting her uniform ;) And by the way: Our hotel room was located above the Hard Rock Cafe...
The following pictures were taken in the cities of Rabat and Mdina, the final ones in Valletta and again St. Julian's. Rabat and Mdina were so quiet that we felt like aliens there. No one on the streets and hardly any tourists in sight.
We couldn't really find out why there was this "Klinsmann"-sign over a shop or restaurant as it was closed that day. But I thought it quite funny to find the name there so I had to capture it ;) Well, and normally I'm not into cars at all but it amazed me to come across shiny vintage cars in almost shabby back roads.
After being shocked on the day of our arrival by the noise and dirt in the streets we didn't really want to go back home later on. Ann is going to stay on the island for another four weeks and while working there she has already moved three times to different hotels but luckily kept her nice roommates.
